On Saturday, December the 13, Dubvibe played at the Lions Hall in Killaloe. It was part of a craft fair and concert event. At six, the doors opened and people had the opportunity to shop local. Products included hand-made soaps and beeswax candles, jewellery and mosaics, and organic baked goods from all kinds of local farms and craftsmen.
It was a great night to listen to reggae. Dubvibe filled the hall with dancing tunes. Tk2000 a.k.a. Tanya Kornobis, singing and playing keyboard. She had Greg Zawidski on lead guitar, on a guitar he handcrafted, no less. Kevin Munroe played rhythm guitar. Jude was on bass. They had two drummers, both the Martel boys, keeping the beat. They played a lot of originals from Boogiewall Soundsystem, as well as newer songs written by Kevin Munroe. There were lots of Bob Marley covers, too, for what is a night of reggae without Bob Marley?
The show went until 1 o’clock and still people wanted more. It was a great time and hopefully they play again soon.

Peter Benner With A Message

Posted in Radio by chcrmember on November 21, 2008

Peter Benner here….board member for CHCR.
CHCR is now organizing its move to the downstairs space at 14 Lake Street. We are quickly designing a sound proof space for our control room, and encouraging those who wish to participate, to help us move furniture, records and other fixtures, into the space below our present location. This process will start after the weekend, continuing during the day, evening and into next weekend. If you are available, eager and willing to help lend a hand, please let me know and I will schedule you in accordingly. If you have carpentry, electrical or plumbing skills, have materials and time you wish to donate or volunteer, we’d love to hear from you!
If you’re a musician, send us some of your original music.
If you’re wanting to have your own radio show, come on in!
If you want to listen to eclectic music, viewpoints and spoken word on a diverse range of topics, we’re on 102.9, 104.5 FM, and (back up and on the Net in a few days at the most).
If you are a service organization and want to publicize something, please let us know.
If you are a business and want to become a CHCR sponsor for an affordable month or more, please get in touch!
We are a community radio station. We only reflect what effort is put into our programming.
It’s up to you. Please support homegrown community radio at its most independent. We’ve been on the air for 10 years now. Don’t tune in a month from now, only to hear dead air.
We need to hear from you. Even if all you can do is pass on words of encouragement, this will mean a lot to some dedicated, driven and yes, maybe even obsessed, devoted volunteers.
CHCR is here for you.
Yours in peace and fredom,
Peter Benner

The first benefit dance held for the Stanley family who was burned out of their home on Thanksgiving Day was a great success. Many people came out and over $2500 was raised to assist them. Thanks to all who donated money and time for them. It is greatly appreciated and wonderful to know what a strong sense of community this area has. There is another benefit scheduled for early December and perhaps another in January. I will kepp you updated.
